The Rev. John David Angerer, Jr. Please call me Jay. Only my mom can tell you why. I was
born in Delaware and raised in Southern Virginia, in a town called Chester,
15 miles south of
Richmond. I received a B.A in History at VCU in Richmond, Virginia in 1993.
Before being ordained, I was a successful retail manager for Eddie Bauer in
Delaware and Pennsylvania. Therefore, I know more about selling clothing
then the average Episcopal priest! Currently, I serve as the Vicar of
Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, an Episcopal "church plant," that started in
2005. It’s been exciting starting a church from scratch; being a portable
Episcopal Church has been an adventure. Before that, I was the Curate
at St. Thomas’s Parish in Newark, Delaware, as
well as, the Episcopal Campus Minister to the University of Delaware.
Working with college students kept me on my toes. I had a fantastic
seminary experience in Evanston, Illinois at Seabury Western
Theological Seminary. While studying for my Masters, I was in the exciting
position of starting a Youth Ministry Program for St. James the Less
Episcopal Church in Northfield, Illinois. Next, I was ordained as a Deacon
in June of 2002 and ordered to the priesthood in December of that same year.
Lisa (?), Renee (6), Cole (3), Pete the Dachshund (10) and I all live in
Bear, Delaware. Bear is fifteen miles south of Wilmington, Delaware. My
extended
family includes: two married sisters with family who live on the East Coast
and my parents who live in Hockessin, Delaware. Lisa’s father and married
brother with family live in the Washington D.C. area. Sadly, Lisa’s mother
lost her fight to cancer a little over a year ago. I love playing the
guitar, listening to the Dave Matthews Band, cooking and
reading books on a variety of subjects. |
